Rec Tec Auger Not Turning

Rec Tec is an American grill company that produces gas grills, pellet grills, smokers, and accessories.

The Rec-Tec Auger is one of their newest models that can hold up to 30 pounds of food at once.

It has a stainless-steel finish and features two separate cooking decks for versatility in cooking options.

This model also comes with adjustable feet so you can level the grill on inclines or declines, as well as a removable drip pan for easy cleaning.

If you’re looking for a powerful grill this summer, check out the Rec-Tec Auger.

Why is My Rec-Tec Auger Not Turning?

Debris or ice has jammed the auger,It’s out of gas or electricity, the motor has malfunctioned because of a power outage or other electrical issue. This can also happen if you pulled the cord during operation, which could have caused the wiring inside the motor to come loose and need some rewiring.

Why Is My Green Mountain Grill Auger Making Noise?

When the auger makes noises, it most often means that there is some blockage, ranging from dirt and grease buildup on the intake side of the auger.

This may be from buildup of meat particles on its outlet side.

If left unchecked for too long, these will impede airflow into or out of your grill, which will cause even more problems down the road when your food burns.

How do I Clean Green Mountain Pellet Grill?

To clean a pellet grill, start by turning off the power to the appliance in the circuit breaker box.

Once the grill top is cool, wipe it with an oiled rag to remove any debris on the surface. Wipe again with a dry rag to remove any moisture.

Remove the grill grates and heat diverter, then clean them using warm soapy water. Use a non-abrasive pad or brush to remove stuck-on food.

After cleaning, place the grates back onto the smoker.

You can clean in the heat diverter-like manner (no need to do anything since they are self-cleaning) or wipe down with mineral oil.

Either will make them easier to slide off next time you change your pellets, which is the recommendation every 3-5 hours of use.

Remove the grease tray and dump out any ash and debris. Scrub the pan with soapy water and a non-abrasive pad or brush to remove the burned-on gunk.

Allow it to dry completely before replacing it in the grill.

Clean the metal ends of the smokestack with warm soapy water, then wipe them down with mineral oil when you’re done cleaning.

Wipe down all other interior metal surfaces (e.g., access door) with a soft cloth and warm soapy water; rinse and allow to dry thoroughly before putting back in your pellet grill.

(don’t use chemical cleaners or things like oven cleaners). A spray bottle filled with diluted dish soap is perfect for this job – one squirt will do.

Wipe down the exterior with a soft cloth and warm water; ensure no excess moisture. It’s best to leave the grill open for a few minutes if possible.

Use a stainless-steel cleaner for stubborn spots or any household degreaser (I do not recommend grilling on top of residue from oven cleaners).

Spray over surfaces, let it sit for a minute, wipe with a damp cloth and immediately rinse off.

I have found that some oven cleaners will damage the coating used on most pellet grill exteriors – say no.

Why Is Smoke Coming Out of My Pellet Grill Hopper?

The first thing that may cause smoke from your pellet grill hopper is if it’s running low on pellets or you have opened it for an extended period.

If you’ve been cooking without replenishing fuel, the fire may not keep up, which can cause excessive heat and smoke and a potential fire hazard.

The second reason that could cause this issue is that the engine might have died due to lack of fuel or leaving it on too long with no food intake.

To fix this situation, refuel your grill and use the tip below to help prevent this problem.

The third reason there could be smoke coming out of your grill is that food particles block the path for airflow.

Sometimes these particles can get stuck in certain areas that might cause overheating, thus causing excess smoke.

An easy way to fix this issue is by taking off the hopper lid and giving everything a good clean with an air compressor or vacuum cleaner.

After you’ve done this, clean out your fire pot as well; it will also reduce heat, potentially preventing future problems.

The last reason that’s commonly associated with pellet grill hopper smoke is airflow issues stemming from the release plate area.

If your pellets aren’t feeding into your burn pot efficiently, excess smoke can be a result.

To fix this problem, you’ll need to adjust your airflow screw; turn the screw clockwise or counterclockwise until it’s completely closed.

However, it would be best not to leave the plate area exposed as this might cause extreme heat, burning your pellets and decreasing your grill’s life.

Why Is My Camp Chef Pellet Grill Not Smoking?

If you are cooking on a Camp Chef pellet grill(Amazon Link) and it isn’t smoking, then either the pellets aren’t igniting, or they’re not reaching the temperature needed to create smoke.

If your pellets are low in fuel, this might be why.

If your fire is too small or there’s no airflow under the grates where you have positioned the food, food will cook but won’t produce smoke.

Ensure that you have enough ventilation for an even flame, and ensure that you’ve added more pellets when necessary.

Pit Boss Pellet Grill Auger Won’t Stop Running?

There are some steps you can take to get it back up and running.

The first thing to do is check the auger motor connection wires connecting the auger motor to the power supply.

If these are loose, tighten them with pliers or another tool that will fit securely on each side of one wire at a time, damaging nothing else around it.

Next, make sure there are enough pellets in the hopper. If you have a digital panel with buttons on it and no power, chances are you ran out of pellets.

If your grill has an external button that activates the auger motor without holding down a physical button.

Then instead press that button as if you were going to operate it manually again.

If all else fails, unplug the unit for several minutes after letting it cool off completely and plugging back in.

This resets most connections and will allow for optimal use when cooking up some delicious food.

What Does ‘ErR’ Error Code Mean on a Pit Boss Pellet Grill?

The ERR error code typically means either a problem with your digital controller board or one of your igniters is not working correctly.

When encountering this issue, you should first check your spark plug wire connections by removing them and seeing if you have continuity between all the retainer clamps.

If there is no continuity, replace your spark plug wire.

Several other things can cause this error code, so it’s best to refer to your user manual for a comprehensive list of likely causes and solutions.

Why is My Pit Boss Pellet Grill Temperature Blinking?

The most common reason for a blinking temperature light is low fuel, which makes sense because I haven’t been using it much lately.

Other possibilities are a dirty flame sensor or an open door on the hopper where pellets may have spilt out onto the heating element beneath your grill’s firepot.

So now I know why my Pit Boss Pellet Grill isn’t working. It was probably just because of some simple maintenance issues, like changing out the pellets.

I owned my Pit Boss Pellet Grill for a couple of years before the company discontinued manufacturing them.

I felt like they were effortless to use, but they had some problems.

The biggest one is that the temperature control was not accurate from time to time and would require me to disassemble the entire smoker and clean it out.

My most recent problem was that my temp stopped blinking and just stayed on at about 300 degrees, which wasn’t hot enough for grilling or smoking steaks,

So I’m going to share with you all why this happened and how to fix it.

Pit Boss Grills used wood pellets as their fuel source, though other brands now use compressed sawdust logs as their primary fuel source.

The Pit Boss Pellet Grill is one of the most popular brands because it’s known for its ability to maintain a constant temperature and smoke your food.

Hence, it tastes like you spent all day barbecuing, which you can do because of their patented ‘Pellet Boss’ technology.

You may find that you have a blinking light on your digital control panel – this means that something is wrong and your grill needs attention.

I would recommend checking the pellets in your hopper and making sure they’re full; if they are low or out, add more before continuing.

This should be enough to get your grill working again, but if not, then there may be some other issues;

Such as a dirty flame sensor or an open door on the hopper where pellets may have spilt out onto the heating element beneath your grill’s firepot.

If you don’t see a blinking light and something is wrong, a more likely issue could be a low fuel level in your fuel hopper.

This would affect temperature even if it weren’t blinking because as you use up all the pellets, airflow decreases, and temperature drops.

The good news is that this is an affordable part to replace – but make sure not to put any meat directly over the exposed burner until it’s replaced.

If you do so, it could easily start a grease fire that might burn your house down or set off smoke alarms if one becomes too hot.

Why Did My Pit Boss Pellet Grill Catch Fire?

The answer to this question is usually because the owner failed to clean their pellet grill after cooking.

It would be best to be mindful of how often you cook on your pit boss pellet grill and how often you clean it after each use.

If there are any food particles left behind when cleaning, they can cause a fire.

To keep your Pit Boss Pellet Grill from catching fire, it’s super important that you take the time to clean it well after each use.

Before beginning cleaning your pit boss pellet grill, make sure all the internal components have cooled.

Once cooled down completely, wipe down any excess grease and follow these steps:

Step One: Brush off loose debris inside the grill

Step Two: Remove drip pan from under cold meat probe if applicable and wash in warm soapy water or place in dishwasher.

Step Three: Wipe grease pans clean with a paper towel and replace drip pan(s) into their original position

Step Four: Vacuum debris from the exterior of the grill to remove ash and carbon buildup.

Step Five: Wipe clean all pit boss pellet grill surfaces with a cloth or sponge that you have dampened with water.

If unable to remove tough stains, use a commercial oven cleaner to spray on stubborn areas, then allow to sit for 10 minutes.

To prevent damage to the finish, always use a soft cloth or sponge when applying any chemicals as the steel will react with some chemicals, such as lye or oven cleaners.

Step Six:

  • Replace drip pans.
  • Remove the probe if applicable.
  • Wash in warm soapy water or place in the dishwasher.

Step Seven: Wash the meat probe (if applicable) in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly. Replace the meat probe into the grill.

Step Eight: Wipe grease pan clean with a paper towel and replace drip pan(s) into the original position.

Step Nine: Replace cooking grates and other components that you have cleaned thoroughly by hand.

Now that you have finished cleaning your pit boss pellet grill, it’s a good idea to perform a simple burn-off on the smoker to ensure everything is completely dry before storing.

To do this, plug in your pit boss pellet grill for 15 minutes, turning the temperature setting to “high,”

Allowing the inside of your grill to reach 500 degrees Fahrenheit or 260 degrees Celsius.

Once done, leave the grill open until it reaches room temperature, then store as usual.

Always ensure there is no residual ash or debris left inside the grill before cooking again.
